In brief
- Google is expanding Gmail’s Writing Help feature with a new Polish option that lets you turn rough notes into a formal email with just a tap.
- Gmail for Android and iOS is also getting new “Help Write” and “Refine Draft” keyboard shortcuts, making the tools easier to use.
- These new features are generally available to select Google Workspace subscribers.
Google introduced significant improvements to Gmail’s Help with Writing feature earlier this year, which allows users to dictate text input to easily compose an email. The company also introduced a new “Polish” feature that can correct drafts to create a structured email at the touch of a button. This feature is now rolling out to users, along with new Help with Writing and Refine Draft keyboard shortcuts for Gmail on Android and iOS.
Google announced the launch in a recent Workspace updates blog, saying that the new Polish option will be available as part of Help me write’s Refine Draft feature in Gmail for mobile and web. This feature lets you type rough notes into a draft and Gemini will “Transform content into a fully formal draft, ready for review with just one click.”
Additionally, Gmail users on Android and iOS should also see a new Help Writing shortcut when an email draft is blank. This shortcut launches the full Help Writing experience. If you type 12 or more words in a draft, a Refine My Draft shortcut will appear instead. You can swipe on this shortcut to access all of the Refine My Draft tools, including Polish, Formalize, Elaborate, Trim, and Write Draft.
The new Help me write Polish feature is currently rolling out to Gmail for web, Android, and iOS, while the Help me write and Refine my draft keyboard shortcuts are available in Gmail for Android and iOS. However, these features are currently limited to Google Workspace subscribers with a Gemini Education and Education Premium, Gemini Business and Enterprise, or Google One AI Premium add-on.
