Google improves its Gmail experience with new updates to the Help Me Write feature, powered by Gemini.
The updates include a new “Help me write” option that optimizes email drafts on web and mobile.
“Help me write” and “Refine my draft” keyboard shortcuts are now available on Android and iOS devices.
Google is improving its Gmail experience with new updates to the Help Me Write feature powered by Gemini. Building on the success of previous innovations like Email Summary, Google is now introducing additional tools to streamline the email drafting process.
“Building on our popular ‘Help me write’ feature in Gmail and the recent launch of the Summary feature in the Gmail mobile app, we’re excited to announce two new Gemini updates in Gmail that help you compose emails even faster,” Google announced in a blog post about Workspace updates.
The updates include a new Help Writing option to refine email drafts on the web and mobile, and new Help Writing and Refine Draft keyboard shortcuts on Android and iOS devices.

If you use Gemini to polish emails, you can now choose between three options: Formalize, Elaborate, and Shorten. For those who don’t know, Google recently added the Polish option for web and mobile that helps you polish your emails and save time. For example, if you type rough notes in a draft, Gemini can turn the content into a fully formal draft, ready for review with one click.
When you start a new email draft on a mobile device, a Help with Writing link appears in the email body. Selecting this link opens the full Help with Writing experience. If your draft contains more than 12 words, a Refine My Draft link appears below the email body to indicate that options are available to refine, formalize, elaborate, or shorten your draft, or to write a new draft. The menu can be accessed simply by swiping right on Refine My Draft.

It is important to note that the new features are available to Google Workspace customers with the Gemini Business and Enterprise add-on, the Gemini Education and Education Premium add-on, and Google One AI Premium.
