TV ratings (20.08.24): The Voice coaches return for Tia Barnes’ emotional performance

The second episode of the latest season of The Voice on Seven Network achieved a national TV reach of 1,821,000 viewers, just below Monday’s debut episode which introduced the newest star coaches.

Last night’s episode was the second night of blind auditions, where seven new artists make their debut. The winner receives a grand prize of $100,000 and a recording contract.

One singer moved viewers to tears not only with her incredible voice but also with her emotional backstory. 25-year-old Tia Barnes said her father is battling a rare and deadly form of brain cancer and his life expectancy is up to five years.

“It really breaks my heart to think that I won’t be able to busk,” she said through tears. “We don’t know how much longer Dad will live, so we’re just taking each day as it comes and taking advantage of opportunities like this.”

Barnes chose the emotional ballad Life goes on by Ed Sheeran and Luke Combs, whereupon all four coaches turned to look at her.

“What I really, really liked was how calm and centered it was,” Kate said.

Adam described her performance as “transcendent” and “truly beautiful.”

“If you did a show, I would want to see it,” Guy added, followed by LeAnn, who said, “I felt like I was floating listening to you.”

In Tuesday’s episode of The Block on Nine, the contestants once again had to live with the uncomfortable reality of “tent city”.

The excitement of camping is slowly fading as Paige becomes increasingly annoyed that the mattress is losing air.

Also broadcast on Nine were “A Current Affair” and “Tipping Point”, which achieved a national TV reach of 1,660,000 and 1,371,000 viewers respectively.
