Disruptions at rides in Pennsylvania, passengers injured

Several people were slightly injured on Saturday after a ride at an Erie amusement park malfunctioned. Now there is an update.

Steve Gorman, president of Waldameer Park & Water World, said there was a malfunction in the swings after riders swung too far out and the ride did not come down properly.

He said a child appeared to be in distress on the swing, prompting an operator to stop the ride midway. The malfunction left some users with non-life-threatening foot injuries and some requiring hospitalization.

Gorman said a state inspector examined the attraction on Sunday and the park has contacted the attraction’s manufacturer to ensure the malfunction does not occur again.

“We are unhappy when someone gets hurt in our park, and I feel sorry for those who are injured. I feel for them. Safety is our top priority. People need to be safe when they come here,” Gorman said.
