Challenges you will solve

As a Senior Technical Writer at Red Canary, you will take a leadership role in driving documentation initiatives for Red Canary’s Security Operations platform. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Product Management, this individual will be responsible for leading the design, development, management, and delivery of comprehensive technical documentation for our products and services. The ideal candidate will be an expert in technical writing, possess strong organizational and communication skills, have experience redesigning production documentation from scratch, and have a proven track record of managing complex and constantly evolving documentation projects.

What you will do

  • Lead the development and implementation of the documentation strategy.
  • Define and implement processes for collecting, creating and publishing various types of documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—such as development, product management, marketing, customer support, and others—to gather information and create accurate, clear, and user-friendly documentation.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, including user guides, API documentation, FAQs, operational and technical manuals, and release notes.
  • Use modern tools and technologies to improve documentation processes and results.
  • Establish and enforce documentation standards, templates and best practices.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and edits of technical content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Implement feedback mechanisms to continuously improve the quality of documentation.
  • Track documentation metrics and report on project status, challenges and successes.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices in technical documentation.
  • Promote the adoption of innovative documentation solutions such as interactive documentation, video tutorials and other multimedia formats.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase documentation efficiency and effectiveness.

What you bring

  • At least 10 years of experience in technical writing for B2B software products, with at least 4 years of experience working on technical products in IT or cybersecurity. If you lack this experience, tell us why your other experiences will also help you succeed in this role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical writing, English, communications, computer science or a related field preferred.
  • An innate curiosity to understand how things work and what drives people
  • Good understanding of software development processes and technologies.
  • The acumen to make technical concepts accessible to a non-technical audience
  • The ability to adapt to work in a fast-paced, high-growth organization combined with the desire to learn and grow.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Target base salary range: $133,000 – $180,000 + bonus eligibility and equity based on experience
