Anthony Edwards said a doping test marred his gold medal celebration

Winning an Olympic gold medal is arguably the greatest achievement in all of sport, and of course you want to spend the moments after you win celebrating the victory with your teammates.

So you can understand why it’s a little depressing when you walk off the court and are told, “Congratulations. Have a solid bowel movement and pee in this cup, OK?”

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards said that’s exactly what happened to him and teammates Kevin Durant and Steph Curry after the U.S. team defeated France in the gold medal game at the Summer Olympics in Paris.

While they may have been looking forward to jumping off the podium and heading to the locker room to spray some French champagne, Edwards said in an interview with Jalen Rose and Durant at Fanatics Fest over the weekend that “random” drug tests marred the celebrations.

“We couldn’t even really celebrate because he, Steph and I had to do, like, a drug test or something,” Edwards said, according to Bleacher Report.

Really? I think it’s good that the Olympics keep up with this (unless you’re a Russian figure skater or a Chinese swimmer, in which case it’s not a problem). But did they really need to check the NBA stars right after the game?

You’d think the NBA would have this so well under control that there wouldn’t be too many questions, but I guess when you step on the hosts’ hearts the way Curry and Co. did, you might be presented with an empty paper cup that you have to fill.

Sure, it’s a bit of a detour, but by the time you’re done pouring Gatorade and handing the finished product to an IOC official, the celebrations are already underway. I feel like it’s hard to just join in on the same level of celebration as everyone else after getting distracted.

Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like Edwards, Durant, or Curry were too upset about it, and since we haven’t heard anything, we can assume they all passed with flying colors.
