Watch live: Second night of the DNC with speeches by Obama and Bernie Sanders

The second night of the Democratic National Convention begins Tuesday evening, with former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama addressing delegates in their hometown of Chicago.

Barack Obama’s speech comes 20 years after his keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, which launched him to national fame and earned his party’s presidential nomination four years later. On Tuesday, he will campaign for Vice President Kamala Harris, who was an early supporter of his incendiary 2008 candidacy.

Also scheduled to speak at Tuesday’s session are Senator Bernie Sanders, the Vermont independent who ran for president himself in 2016, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. Prominent Republican critics of former President Donald Trump will also take the stage, including Stephanie Grisham, Trump’s former White House press secretary who has become an outspoken critic.

The Convention started on Monday with an address from President Biden, who resigned last month to make way for Harris. The former president delivered an enthusiastic and emotional speech endorsing Harris as his successor and promising to be the “best volunteer” for her campaign.

Tuesday’s session is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET. CBS News is bringing you live coverage from the DNC in the video player at the top of this page, but if you want to see all the speeches in full, you can stream them live here:

Emhoff tells party conference that Harris is “ready to take the lead”

Emhoff, Harris’ husband, will deliver a speech on the second night of the convention, telling assembled delegates and Democratic leaders that Harris is a “joyful warrior” ready to lead the country.

“Now, when the country needs her, she is showing what we already know: She is ready to lead, she brings both joy and toughness to the task, and she will be a great president who we will all be proud of,” Emhoff will say, according to excerpts from his speech released by the Democratic National Convention Committee.

Emhoff, the first to hold the role of Second Gentleman, will also praise Harris’ passion and tenacity, saying it will benefit the nation.

“America, in this election you must decide who you trust with the future of your family,” he will say, according to the remarks. “I trusted Kamala with the future of our family. It was the best decision I ever made.”
