Top linebackers to watch in 2024

Leading the list of linebackers to watch are two Daily Breeze Defensive Player of the Year winners: Jake Silverman (2023) of Torrance and Venilaite Wolfgramm III (2022) of Inglewood.

Here is our list of linebackers to watch for the 2024 season.

1. Jake Silverman, Torrance, Sr.

Silverman was the Daily Breeze Defensive Player of the Year last season. He recorded 166 tackles, 10 sacks, three interceptions and recorded 14 total forced fumbles and possession recoveries.

2. Venilait Wolfgramm III, Inglewood, Sr.

Wolfgramm was the Daily Breeze Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore. He recorded 136 tackles last season and should have another big year for the Sentinels.

3. Mark Iheanachor, Narbonne, Sr.

Iheanachor (SMU commit) excelled on both sides of the ball last year. He was a second-team all-area pick last season and finished the season with 95 tackles.

4. Samu Moala, Leuzinger, jr.

Moala is one of the best uncapped juniors. He will play a bigger role on offense, but he will still cause problems on defense.

5. Xavier Grant, Gardena, Sr.

Grant was the Marine League MVP last season and played both running back and linebacker. His offensive role is expected to increase this season, but he will likely continue to play a role on defense as well.

6. Lennox Ford, Serra, Sr.

Ford will be a player to keep an eye on for the Cavaliers. Last season, he recorded 42 tackles and six sacks.

7. Pedro Ibanez-Eddy, Banning, Sr.

Ibanez was one of the best defensive players in the City Section last season, recording 132 tackles and forcing three fumbles.

8. Xavier Allen, Carson, Jr.

Allen was second on the Colts in tackles (63) last season and was tied for the team leader with five sacks.

9. Milo Youker, Redondo, Sr.

Youker recorded 85 tackles, including 15 for loss, for the Sea Hawks last season. He also had three sacks and intercepted a pass.

10. Jackson Reach, Mira Costa, Jr.

As a sophomore, Reach led the Mustangs in tackles (114 tackles) and added three sacks and seven pass breakups.
