Guests in Disneyland The resort can expect two brand new attractions at Avengers Campus in the next few years. Every two years, The Walt Disney Company hosts the D23 Expo, an event known for its big announcements about upcoming movies, projects, and park expansions and updates. While several projects have been announced for Walt Disney World, Disneyland guests can look forward to an expansion of the Avengers Campus area, including two new attractions: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab.

Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, confirmed during the event that everything announced is in active development and does not represent a Blue Sky concept. The Walt Disney Company has faced some doubt in recent years for presenting seemingly “Blue Sky” projects or ideas for updates in the parks that were just possibilities and nothing concrete and confirmed. Universal Orlando is bringing Epic Universe to life next year, including areas inspired by the Universal Classic Monsters. How to train your dragon, and the Harry Potter franchise, many fans wondered if Disney would respond to competition from Universal. After the confirmed announcements from D23 earlier this month, it seems clear that Disney Imagineers have been hard at work on projects behind the scenes.

Avengers Infinity Defense is the first time Disneyland guests will be able to experience an attraction featuring all of their favorite Avengers. According to Disney, the premise of the story is that important technology belonging to the Avengers has been lost, allowing them to jump between worlds. A variant of King Thanos is using it to wreak havoc across the galaxies, and riders must help the Avengers travel to places like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City to try to stop him. Other than the story concept, not much is known about the attraction, including the ride mechanics, though it appears that it will be similar to the popular Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction in Galaxy’s Edge.

Stark Flight Lab features Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Riders are placed in a “two-person capsule” and taken to a testing station. A robotic arm grabs each capsule and whirls guests around in a simulated flight. Guests enter Tony Stark’s workshop, where they can see the Starks’ latest inventions and weapons used by the Avengers. Before boarding the capsules, they are briefed by Tony Stark on what to expect from the experience, and no two rides will be the same. Based on concept art for the attraction, the ride mechanisms appear to be similar to those of Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey at Universal Studios theme parks.
