Austin Dillon wins in controversial finish in Richmond

After climbing out of his No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Camaro, Dillon said he was upset about running over the leader while battling for the win, but ultimately he had to do what he had to do.

“I don’t know, man. It’s been two years. This is the first car I’ve had a chance to win. I felt like we were the fastest car with two laps to go,” Dillon explained. “Obviously had to be a straightaway. Wrecked the guy. I hate to do that stuff, but sometimes you just have to have it. I have to thank the good Lord above. The last two years have been tough, man. I care about RCR, these fans, my wife. This is my first car for my little girl. It means a lot to me. I hate it, but I had to do it.”

Dillon reiterated that he was ready to “do whatever it takes” to win the race.

While Dillon was celebrating his first win in over two years, Joey Logano was furious because he was turned around on the last lap with victory in sight.

“This is cowardly shit,” Logano said. “There’s no doubt about it. He’s four car lengths back, not even close. Then he blows the 11. Then he goes up there and thanks God and praises everything with his baby. This is a bunch of bullshit. It’s not even close.”

Logano continued by calling Dillon a “piece of shit.”
