Emergency crews extinguish house fire in North Miami; authorities say building is abandoned – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

NORTH MIAMI, FLA. (WSVN) – Emergency crews in a north Miami neighborhood battled smoke after a home caught fire.

Miami-Dade Fire Department rescue units responded to a call for heavy smoke coming from a home on Griffing Boulevard near West Dixie Highway shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday.

“When we arrived, we saw smoke rising on the Charlie side,” said MDFR Captain Alexander Agea.

7News cameras captured smoke rising from the roof of the home, as well as several MDFR trucks and dozens of firefighters entering and exiting the home.

Emergency crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control. Officials said the house was empty.

“We quickly realized it was an abandoned building. There was no one inside,” Agea said.

While firefighters investigated the incident, emergency crews closed an intersection and a large portion of Griffing Boulevard.

It was shortly before 8 p.m. when rescue workers received an emergency call that thick smoke was rising from a house.

There was no sign of a homeowner until Saturday night.

The intersection at Griffing Boulevard has now reopened.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
