A war without winners At The Shadow of Passion 20 August

A war without winners At The Shadow of Passion 20 August

Victor Newman and Billy Abbott are heading for war Shadow of Passion. Normally in the real world – and certainly in Genoa City – a fight involves choosing sides. Do you want Billy or Victor to win? Thanks to Tuesday’s August 20 episode, it’s now much easier for us to decide: we really want… both of them to lose.

In this corner

That Victor (Eric Braeden – who teased some great scenes) is awful is an undisputed fact. He’s a terrible husband, a terrible father, a terrible grandfather and often a terrible boss. But Victor sank to new and exciting depths when even Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) – normally his strongest defender and supporter – was horrified to think Victor was taking advantage of Jill’s (Jess Walton) illness to bring down Billy (Jason Thompson).

Victor insisted it was necessary. Nikki didn’t believe him. Victor swore he wouldn’t do it. He would only threaten to do it. Nikki didn’t believe him. Victor assured her that Johnny (Paxton Mishkind – who has a fun side job) and Katie (Sienna Mercuri) wouldn’t mind if he attacked their father because they already knew Billy was a loser. Oh, and Victor taking advantage of their grandmother? Well… he’ll make up a reason why they don’t mind either. Just when we thought Victor couldn’t get any worse,… he did.

On the other hand

There’s no question that Billy is a terrible person. He’s a terrible husband, a terrible father, a terrible son, a terrible boss, and a terrible gum chewer. He was willing to take advantage of Jill’s illness, and he seems determined to intimidate Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) even as she takes care of her son.

But Billy sank to new and exciting depths when he decided to attack Lily (Christel Khalil), accusing her of undermining, betraying, and refusing to do anything he says. (That’s pretty much the same tactic he took when he broke up with her.) Just when we thought Billy couldn’t get any worse, he did…

Share the difference

In business, there is the concept of a win-win. If we were sympathetic to both Victor and Billy’s points of view, we would be all for it. But based on their behavior in just one episode, we now want more than anything for Genoa City to lose between Victor and Billy. Would we be the winners then? Maybe. Maybe Nikki, Jill and Lily will be the winners in the end.
