Naomi Watts is working on her first book and says it is not the typical celebrity memoir. On Tuesday, the actress announced that I dare say hits shelves in January and is all about the menopause.

“This is a book about how my life turned upside down when I was told at 36 that I was about to go through menopause! Right when I was ready to start a family,” the actress wrote on Instagram. Watts said this realization made her feel like her life and career were over. “While I struggled with shame and secrecy, I wished there was an open conversation. A manual I could secretly flip through. Unfortunately, there were no real resources. Not even knowledgeable doctors.”

I dare say is designed to help combat the isolation women can feel during menopause, Watts said. In 2022, she created Stripes Beauty, a line of supplements and other products to help women deal with issues caused by hormonal changes, such as thinning hair and vaginal dryness. In June, the brand was acquired by L Catterton, a private equity firm co-founded by LVMH.

Watts wrote on Instagram that she hopes her book will “give you the opportunity to feel empowered by the conversations I’ve had with doctors and experts, and to feel a little less alone by hearing my story and the conversations I’ve had with my friends.”
