The Freedom Flotilla Coalition informed its supporters that the Turkish-backed “Break the Siege” aid project for the besieged Gaza Strip had been put on hold indefinitely due to rising tensions following the assassinations of key resistance leaders in the capitals of Lebanon and Iran.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to be able to set sail, but in the meantime we need to let everyone know that the setting of sail for Break the Siege will have to be put on hold indefinitely for now,” flotilla reporter Tan Safi said in a video to supporters.

Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and his bodyguard were killed in the early hours of Wednesday in his guesthouse for war veterans in Tehran. Iran accuses Israel of the assassination.

His killing came hours after top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, five civilians – three women and two children – were also killed in the attack.
