Update: 11:30 a.m. ET – X-User Tradition has claimed to be the source of the image posted by Majin Bu and says the invitation is fake. While we realized at the time that this was a possibility, it’s unfortunate that this deception was apparently so easy for Lore to pull off.
The original article follows.
We may have just seen an invitation to an Apple event in the second week of September that was specifically about the iPhone 16, although there is a good chance that it is a fake.
The alleged invitation was shared by Majin Bu on X. However, they are not entirely convinced by their anonymous source – and thus by the credibility of this image, as they express in a follow-up post. So we take this with a grain of salt.
According to a source who wishes to remain anonymous, the new Apple event where the iPhone 16 will be unveiled will take place on September 10, 2024. This is said to be the cover of the invitation pic.twitter.com/7jGoafHaOU19 August 2024
The invitation offers the lucky recipient the opportunity to visit Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California for an event on September 10, which many sources now believe will be the date of Apple’s next product launch. The Apple logo is shown in bronze, which could possibly indicate the Desert Titanium color, which is being touted as this year’s hero color for the iPhone 16 Pro.
There is also the slogan “Ready. Set. Capture,” which sounds like a reference to the iPhone 16’s supposedly new capture button for easier photo taking.
Invitation or invention?
If Apple does indeed hold an event in September, the invites should start going out soon. Apple usually gives us a few weeks’ notice, but it’s not unreasonable to assume that the design of these invites and the details they’ll include are already done and ready to be sent out.
However, the details that make this invite compelling – the release date, the color, and the record button – are all well-known rumors. Anyone who’s been following the iPhone 16 leaks could have figured this out themselves with a little design know-how. An Apple event in September is pretty much guaranteed every year, so hopefully we’ll get official invites from Apple soon that will show us whether this leak is real or not.
Apple’s next product launch could be a busy one. In addition to the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which this alleged invite suggests, we could also see the Apple Watch 10, as well as the AirPods 4 and maybe even the AirPods Max 2.
