WATCH LIVE: Chicago authorities and Secret Service give DNC public safety update after chaotic protests

Chicago city officials, along with the U.S. Secret Service, will hold a series of daily public safety briefings during the Democratic National Convention.

The congress began on Monday and will last until Thursday, August 22nd.

Tuesday’s press conference comes after a group of protesters tore down security fences near the United Center on Monday afternoon.

About two blocks from Congress, officials began erecting additional fencing at Washington Boulevard and Wood Street. Workers added a second level of fencing and began construction on a second story. Additional anchors and locks were added to hold the fence in place.

We broadcast the press conferences live every day at 11 a.m. in the video player above.

Below is the schedule for the public safety meetings and who will be attending:

Tuesday, August 20th – 11am

  • Larry Snelling, Superintendent of the Chicago Police
  • Derek Mayer, Deputy Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service
  • Jose Tirado, Executive Director, Office of Disaster Management and Communications (OEMC)

Chicago authorities and federal law enforcement officials have spent the last year developing a comprehensive security plan for the duration of the DNC.

One of the biggest security challenges for the DNC is the tens of thousands of protesters who will gather in downtown Chicago, Union Park and other areas not far from the United Center.
