Pixel Watch 3 still cannot be repaired, only replaced

Google’s Pixel Watch series has pretty good hardware, but one issue that plagues the series is repairability. Unfortunately, that won’t change with the Pixel Watch 3, as repairs are still not an option.

After the launch of the first Pixel Watch, it became apparent that Google did not offer any repair options for the smartwatch. If a device was broken, it was simply replaced if it was still under warranty. No screen replacement, no battery replacement, nothing.

Despite switching to new materials for the Pixel Watch 2, Google still does not offer repair options for the smartwatch, but instead introduces an insurance program.

It has now been confirmed that this will not change with the Pixel Watch 3.

In conversation with Android AuthorityGoogle confirmed that the Pixel Watch 3 is available “as a replacement only” and does not offer any repair options. If a customer comes to Google with a broken smartwatch, they are instructed to “contact the Google Pixel Watch customer support team to explore replacement options.”

Pixel Watch 3 (both 41mm and 45mm) still offers “Preferred Care,” an insurance program that ensures you get a replacement smartwatch even if the damage occurs outside of the warranty period. Google notes that if a claim is approved, there is a $49 service fee for both sizes. This fee is in addition to the $4 per month (or $89 for two years) insurance cost you already pay. The price is the same for both sizes.

The company also offers discounted replacements for the Pixel Watch.

Google will begin shipping the Pixel Watch 3 in early September.
