Reminder: Do not stop on King Street to drop off your children.

King Street and Braddock Road run directly in front of the Alexandria City High School and Minnie Howard campuses. The Alexandria Police Department (APD) advises drivers that both are busy roads and it is not safe to stop there. With the start of the school year, APD has also increased traffic enforcement in these areas.

In a Facebook post, APD wrote:

Please continue driving this afternoon to pick up your children from Minnie Howard and ACHS schools. As drivers, road safety in and around our schools is more than a shared responsibility. There are signs posted along King Street near ACHS and along W. Braddock near Minnie Howard. Please do not stop or park in the roadway, it is a through road. It is not safe for motorists to stop there. Your compliance will ensure the safety of everyone.

In addition, speed cameras in school zones near Francis Hammond Middle School, George Washington Middle School, John Adams Elementary School and Ferdinand T. Day Elementary School are active again this week.
