“Turn the tide“ is the new single from the long-standing heavy metal titans, SATAN. The track comes from the band’s upcoming new album, Songs in PurpleExpected release date is September 13th via Metal Blade Records.
SATANThe history of is steeped in history, their albums and rousing live shows iconic. Hailing from Newcastle, England, the band might joke that their career is “forty-four years of chaos with a twenty-year lunch break” – formed in 1980, eventually took a break before reuniting in 2011 – but around 2024 the band is at the peak of its career, writing, recording and touring.
The clear proof is their seventh studio album and the third for Metal Blade. Songs in PurpleIf 2022 Earth Hells The album was brutal, fast and with loud guitars, guitarist Russ Tippins calls Songs in Purple “more concise. It is more concise and gets to the point quicker. One of the reasons for the album title is that this record is very focused on “songs”. This time there is more punch. Each chorus speaks for itself.“ With influences from King Crimson To Merciful fate, SATANThe band’s own style remains unique, the NWOBHM roots are a springboard for musical and lyrical creativity, commentary and nonconformity.
While Songs in Purple contains texts like “A once great nation falls” And “This is the end of an era,” SATAN does not offer a quick solution.”There is always hope; proclaiming solutions is not our job as musicians”, believes Tippins. “Each song has its own theme. Although there is no theme song as such, the closest thing to that is the song “Deadly Crimson,” which is an anti-capitalist narrative. The concept of making money from money is fatally flawed in that it relies on constant growth.”, says Tippins. “But constant growth is obviously impossible; a conveyor belt of sacrificial lambs.”
Tippins continues: ““Turn The Tide” is the classic “King Candela” scenario – the deluded head of state who thinks he’s divine and wants to prove it by standing in front of the sea and telling the waves to go away. Of course they don’t. We use it as an allegory, so to speak, to illustrate the ridiculous viewpoint of certain chauvinistic Brits who believe that foreigners have no place in our country. It’s the shortest song on the album. And also the fastest!“

Songs in Purple was produced by the band and Dave Curle of First Avenue Studios, who was also responsible for engineering, mixing and mastering the record.
