Cincinnati Open records attendance record

MASON, Ohio – The 2024 Cincinnati Open set a record for attendance.

During the week-long tournament, 205,068 fans came to the Open. This was the first time that the 125-year-old tournament had more than 200,000 fans.

“We are thrilled with the response to this year’s tournament,” said tournament director Bob Moran in a press release. “We said from the beginning that you only turn 125 once, and we celebrated in style this year. Our fans came out with tremendous enthusiasm and energized every minute of the tournament. We are thrilled with how they responded to our upgrades and engaged with the tennis, entertainment, food, beverages and shopping we had to offer.”

Thirteen of the tournament’s 16 sessions were sold out, with nine of those setting single-session attendance records. The all-time record for a single session was also set on the opening day of play on Sunday 11 August, with 14,852 spectators.

The tournament saw several Americans reach the final, including crowd favorite Frances Tiafoe, who reached the final of a major tennis tournament for the first time. He eventually lost to world number one Jannik Sinner. Sinner, who turned 23 on Friday, defeated Tiafoe 7-6 (4), 6-2 to become the youngest Cincinnati winner since 21-year-old Andy Murray won in 2008.

Women’s No. 2 Ayrna Sabalenka won the women’s final in straight sets to claim her first title of the tournament. Sabalenka defeated Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-5 to claim her first title since the Australian Open in January.

The 2025 Cincinnati Open will take place from August 5 to 18.
