Applications for scholarships for WVU health professions students now open | E-News

The WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health and the West Virginia Area Health Education Centers are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the WV AHEC Rural Community Health Scholars program.

Two-thirds of the first class were WVU students, and we are excited to welcome our next group of WVU health professionals.

This two-year program is open to 75 of West Virginia’s top health professions students interested in rural health care across the state.

RCH Scholars focuses on interprofessional education from clinical, didactic and community perspectives, emphasizing how each scholar can create change and reshape the status quo of health care in their community.

As scientists, the students will:

• Become leaders in your profession and community,

• Receive additional training and education from experts in rural health care,

• Develop a sound understanding of how best to deliver health services in rural or underserved areas.

• Learn to work as part of an interprofessional team,

• Provide meaningful patient care on site and gain practical experience,

• Receive a $1,300 participation bonus upon completion of the program.

Applicants should be interested in rural health care, have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and have at least two years remaining in their degree program. The new class of admitted fellows will begin this two-year program on September 1 and graduate in May 2026.

Students of health professions in certain disciplines are eligible to apply.

Contact us if your discipline is not on the list, you may still be eligible to participate.
