Apple ID will be renamed “Apple Account” as iOS 18 rolls out next month • iPhone in Canada Blog

Apple has announced its plans to change the name of the Apple ID to “Apple Account” next month. The change is intended to help align the company’s branding with the launch of iOS 18.

In the latest Press release In a press release, Apple announces that Apple Accounts will be the de facto brand name for user accounts. Starting next month, Apple Accounts will be the sign-in experience for all devices and services under the Apple umbrella.

“With the release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11, Apple ID will be renamed Apple Account to provide a consistent sign-in experience across all Apple services and devices and to be based on a user’s existing sign-in credentials,” the press release said.

Fortunately for users, this is simply a redesign of the sign-in process. From the looks of things, there shouldn’t be any immediate changes that affect the way you sign in to your Apple device or service. Beyond that, your Apple account will work with your current sign-in information.

The Apple ID has been in use since the early 2000s. The exact date is hard to pinpoint, but Apple IDs have been in use since the introduction of iTunes. An Apple ID equivalent was also required when creating a Mac email account in the early 2000s.

Over the decades, the Apple ID has been the free login for everything Apple-related, an essential authenticator when logging into iCloud, and ensuring that data, photos, and contacts were stored securely for users.
