£1.50 Hack repels mosquitoes without harmful chemicals

£1.50 Hack repels mosquitoes without harmful chemicals

It’s time to raid your kitchen cupboards for two basic baking ingredients that could be the key to a mosquito-free summer.

If you’re tired of itchy bites but don’t want to douse your skin with chemicals, there’s a natural trick that “absolutely works” – and smells “delicious.”

Today (20 August) is World Mosquito Day. And what better time to get rid of the blood-sucking insects once and for all without spending a fortune.

TikTok user Contrary Mary recently showed off her three-ingredient spray, which she says works better than any other product she’s tried.

“I’ve bought every mosquito repellent product on the market because I’m being eaten alive,” she said in a now-viral video. “Apparently I have delicious blood… Nothing works and I’m in South Florida and it’s really bad, especially this time of year.”

However, Mary has found that adding a few drops of vanilla essence with a “pinch” of ground cinnamon to a spray bottle filled with water works wonders.

“Not only do I smell like a delicious snack – a delicious baked good out here in the summer heat – it works,” she added.

Hundreds of viewers flocked to the comments section to praise the hack, with one user raving: “It works; it REALLY WORKS! Thank you for saving me from being eaten alive!”

Another agreed, saying, “Nothing special and it really works,” while a third added, “The cheaper the vanilla extract, the better! Cinnamon repels mosquitoes and flies!”

Not everyone was enthusiastic about this tip. They argued that it didn’t work effectively or that the cinnamon would clog the spray nozzle.

However, if you want to try the trick, you can buy both ingredients from your nearest supermarket. Aldi is currently selling a 38ml bottle of vanilla extract for just 79p, while a tin of ground cinnamon will set you back just 75p.
