Lindsey Graham warns: Donald Trump could lose the election if he doesn’t change his strategy

Despite Republican strategists urging him to focus on campaign issues, Donald Trump has doubled down on his personal attacks against Kamala Harris, calling her “stupid” without evidence.

“Our country needs a very smart person, and I don’t think she’s a very smart person,” he said in a new interview with CBS News.

When asked why he held this view, Trump responded at length, referring to “the things she said” and “the way she handled it” before concluding, “I just don’t agree with that.”

In the interview, Trump said he would accept the outcome of this year’s election if it was “free and fair,” implying – again without any basis in fact – that the 2020 result was not.

In a Truth Social post late Monday night, Trump said he would attend a town hall meeting on Fox News on Sept. 4 and claimed Harris had refused to debate him on the channel.

And elsewhere, disgraced former Republican congressman from New York and Trump ally George Santos, who was forced out of office amid a series of scandals, faces prison time after pleading guilty to fraud.

Musk says he would be “willing to serve as Trump advisor”

Elon Musk says he is “ready to serve,” hours after former President Donald Trump said he was considering tapping the Tesla CEO as an adviser in his cabinet if elected.

“He’s a very smart guy. If he did it, I would definitely do it. He’s a brilliant guy,” Trump said after a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

In a post on X, Musk wrote: “I am ready to serve.”

There was also a picture of him standing in front of a podium emblazoned with the words “Department of Government Efficiency” and the acronym DOGE, a reference to a popular cryptocurrency that Musk has often supported in the past.

Musk publicly endorsed Trump in the US presidential election last month.

Fake electors are still donating to Trump, even though some of them have been charged with crimes related to the 2020 election

Financial records show that a number of fraudulent electors who attempted to overturn the 2020 presidential election donated to Donald Trump just this year.

Fake electors continued to donate thousands to Trump, his running mate JD Vance and other Republicans, even as some of them face criminal charges for their roles in the 2020 election.

Rhian Lubin has the story.

Trump says he will accept the result of a “free and fair” election

Donald Trump said he would only accept the result of the presidential election if it was “free and fair.” He claimed that if he lost, the United States would “enter a crisis” reminiscent of the Great Depression of 1929.

By “fair” he means “that the votes are counted,” the former president explained.

“It means that the elections are fair. It means that there is no fraud in the election, that there are no lost ballots, that there are no new rules and regulations being introduced that they do not have the power to enforce.”

“When I see that we had a fair and free election, which I hope we did, but when I see that, I will – you will never see anyone more honorable than me.”

Trump defends his claim that Harris is ‘stupid’ without providing evidence

Former President Donald Trump reiterated his claim that Kamala Harris was “stupid” without providing any evidence.

“I think the message is what a bad job they’ve done,” he told CBS News when asked if using such personal insults was the way to win over moderate voters.

“I mean, when you look at this economy, when you look at inflation, you know, I love this country,” Trump said. “I’ve got to do what it takes to win. I’ve got to get this country back on its feet, because we’re going to lose our country.”

Asked about the evidence supporting his portrayal of Ms Harris as stupid, he said: “Our country needs a very smart person, and I don’t think she’s a very smart person.

“Well, I don’t want that – I don’t take that as an insult – that’s just a fact.”

“What evidence do you have for that?” asked CBS News’ Caitlin Huey-Burns.

“I’ve looked at what she’s said, I’ve looked at how she acts, I’ve looked at her record – her crazy record – I’ve looked at her policies. I just don’t agree with her,” the former president replied. “Now I could say she’s (smart) and I know that would be very nice. And besides, we have to win this election.”

Trump would “gladly” publish his medical records

Former President Donald Trump said he would “gladly” release his medical records as he denied suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the attempt on his life.

The Republican presidential candidate told CBS News that he received “top marks” in his medical exams and passed two cognitive tests with flying colors.

“I did everything right,” Trump said. “And one of the doctors said, ‘I’ve never seen you do everything right.’ No, I have no problem with that (releasing medical records). I would go a step further. I think everyone who runs for president, whether they’re 75, 65 or 45, should take a cognitive test.”

Trump publishes AI-generated images of Taylor Swift that appear to support him

Swift’s popularity extends beyond the world of pop music. In an Instagram post last September, she urged her 283 million followers to register to vote. According to Vote.org, this resulted in more than 35,000 online registrations.

Despite her enormous political influence – which particularly resonates with Generation Z – the creator of the hit “Shake it Off” has not yet officially endorsed a presidential candidate for the 2024 election cycle after supporting President Joe Biden in 2020.

Isaac Hayes’ estate sues Trump campaign team for use of song “Hold On, I’m Coming”

The family of the late singer-songwriter Isaac Hayes filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump and his campaign team on Friday, potentially seeking millions of dollars in damages for the alleged unauthorized use of the song “Hold On, I’m Coming” at the former president’s rallies and campaign videos.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Georgia, also names the Republican National Committee and the conservative activist group Turning Point USA.

Lawyers for the Hayes family argue that Trump owes the estate $150,000 for each alleged unauthorized use of the song, which the Trump campaign allegedly used over 100 times.
