Planned innovation site in Dayton to create 2,000 new jobs

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) – Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted visited Dayton Monday morning to announce details of Ohio’s second innovation center.

“The Miami Valley has always been a place where big ideas take shape, and the unprecedented collaboration that will take place under the onMain Innovation Hub umbrella will result in digital technologies that will impact lives around the world,” said Governor DeWine.

$35 million in state funding from the Ohio Innovation Hubs Program will be used to build the onMain Innovation Hub’s new Digital Transformation Center, located on the former Montgomery County Fairgrounds in the Dayton area.

The DeWine-Husted administration said it launched the $125 million Ohio Innovation Hubs Program in collaboration with the Ohio General Assembly to advance research and development, create new jobs, retain existing jobs and support improved economic conditions across Ohio.

Dewine says that with this second innovation center, they hope to further advance the City of Dayton’s position as a global leader in cutting-edge technologies such as AI, cyber-physical systems, digital engineering and digital manufacturing.

In addition, the hub will support the US Air Force’s digital transformation to revolutionize its design and manufacturing processes for aircraft, missiles, sensors and other hardware and software.

This project is a collaborative effort between the University of Dayton, Premier Health, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the Dayton Development Coalition, and many other organizations, all led by onMain, Inc.

These partners estimate that the center’s work will result in 2,000 new jobs, over $39 million in additional state and local income tax revenue, and $500 million in new research funding by 2031.

“The Dayton Innovation Hub will bring together the talent, research and private/public partnerships the region needs to become a global leader in digital integration for defense and aerospace,” said Lieutenant Governor Husted.
