Robert Griffin III’s message to Caitlin Clark’s WNBA haters: “Stop them”

Robert Griffin III has jumped on the WNBA hype train and will not tolerate any hate for Caitlin Clark.

The former NFL quarterback and ex-ESPN analyst took to social media to criticize WNBA players who apparently had a problem with Clark and the attention she received all season since being selected No. 1 in this year’s draft.

Clark and the opinion other WNBA players have of her made headlines again on Sunday after Clark apparently had a minor altercation with Skylar Diggins-Smith of the Storm.

Another Storm player, Jewell Loyd, also dodged a question about Clark during the postgame press conference, further fueling the story.

But Griffin did not react particularly kindly to Clark’s obvious insults.

“It’s VERY CLEAR that the WNBA players are sick of Caitlin Clark always being in the spotlight and being the main topic of every discussion,” RGIII wrote on X. “This goes beyond competitiveness and physical play. They don’t even want to answer questions about her. If they don’t like that THEN STOP SHE.”

Clark has broken a number of Indiana Fever and WNBA records, including on Sunday against the Storm when she broke the league record for total assists by a rookie with 225 with nine assists.

But Diggins-Smith’s shoulder shove and Loyd’s refusal to answer a question about Clark reignited the ongoing debate about how Clark is viewed by her teammates.

Sports commentators have been commenting on this issue for months, and the latest incident left Shannon Sharpe upset.

“Y’all mad because this corn-fed girl from Iowa is busting your ass. Y’all saying she’s too weak. ‘She can’t do it.’ She leads the WNBA in assists. She’s on top form. Let her be on top form! Let her be on top form!” Sharpe screamed on his Night Cap podcast.

Clark has quickly become the face of the league, along with fellow rookie Angel Reese, who had a strong 2024 season of her own.

In a separate post Monday night, Griffin, who was fired Thursday along with Sam Ponder over an alleged budgetary decision by ESPN, praised both rookies.

“Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese aren’t playing like rookies. They’re taking the WNBA by storm in their own way,” his post read. “Angel Reese is the FASTEST player ever in WNBA history to record 20 double-doubles, is just 3 games away from setting the record for most double-doubles in a season, and has the most games with double-digit rebounds with 22.”

“Caitlin Clark broke a 26-year-old WNBA rookie record for assists in a season, the Indiana Fever matched last year’s winning record with 12 games to go in the season, and she ranks 11th in PPG. The WNBA is in good hands for the foreseeable future.”

Griffin’s time at the station came to an end when his departure was announced last Thursday.

He was pulled from the “Monday Night Countdown” in May so that ESPN could add recently retired player Jason Kelce to the network.

Griffin wrote on social media on Sunday that he would soon “answer” questions related to the firing of the world leader in sports.
