Changes to classic Disneyland ride

Changes to classic Disneyland ride

Disneyland is planning changes to its classic attraction “Peter Pan’s Flight” after the version at Walt Disney World in Florida was removed from insensitive racial stereotypes and caricatures of indigenous people.

In Florida, Walt Disney Imagineers have installed a new scene, complete with audio-audiometric figures of Tiger Lily and her great-grandmother.

Disneyland officials told KTLA that similar changes are expected for its version of the attraction, but an exact timeline for when those changes will take place has not been announced.

Disneyland’s Critter Country is renamed Bayou Country

Imagineers have a long history of updating and enhancing attractions and experiences to keep them fresh and relevant. We consider ourselves constant learners and make thoughtful changes as we find ways to make our attractions and experiences more authentic and relatable, and to connect our stories more deeply with our guests, Disneyland officials said in a statement to KTLA.

Imagineers also updated the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in 2018, removing the scene in which women in chains are presumably auctioned off to pirates, The San Bernardino Sun reported. The scene now shows a female pirate overseeing an auction.

Disneyland is also nearing completion of the redesign of Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Splash Mountain has fallen out of favor in recent years because it features characters and music from the 1946 musical “Song of the South,” which featured stereotypes of black men and a romanticized view of the post-Civil War South.

The attraction’s new storyline focuses on Princess Tiana, Disney’s first black princess, and the events following the 2009 animated hit “The Princess and the Frog.”

Porto’s Bakery will open a new location in Downtown Disney in 2025

Riders follow Tiana and Louis as they search for a missing ingredient for a unique carnival celebration she is hosting. At the end of the ride, guests will discover that they are the missing ingredient or “special spice” that Tiana has been searching for.

As for “Pete Pan’s Flight,” Disney has not announced when changes will be made.

“Peter Pan’s Flight,” which takes guests on a journey to Neverland, is an attraction that will open on opening day at Disneyland.
