The Bridgeport Sissies started their 2024 season last season by winning their first team title.

Bridgeport scored 58 points to win the girls’ 2-mile run at the Kennedale Invitational held Aug. 16 at the MLK Jr. Sports Complex in Arlington. The Sissies beat second-place Stephenville by 1 point. Hillsboro scored 92 points to take the team bronze.

The Sissies were led by Citlali Juarez, who took the individual gold medal in 13:27.76. Juarez was about three seconds faster than Castleberry’s Sara Caldera (13:30.66), while Stephenville’s Miley Magin (13:38.21) took third.

Bridgeport’s Charlotte Moore (14:17.49), Brooke Case (14:46.02) and Yaritza Ruvalcaba (14:46.49) also had top-10 runs, finishing sixth, ninth and tenth, respectively.

In addition to the Sissies, the Paradise Lady Panthers were also among the top five programs in the race, finishing fourth with 113 points.

Madison Gentry was Paradise’s best runner, running 14:02.87 to finish fifth. Audrey Valencia ran in the top 20, finishing 17th with a time of 15:11.72, while Miya Lucero finished 19th with a time of 15:23.03.

In the boys’ 5K, the Bridgeport Bulls finished ninth with 230, finishing behind Joshua (79), Azle (115), Kaufman (122), Stephenville (139), Hillsboro (188), Cedar Hill (203), Castleberry (206) and Arlington (227).

Xxavier Garza led the Bulls with a seventh place finish in 17:16.94.

Paradise’s top runner in the boys 5K was Ray Diffee with a time of 18:50.01 and 47th place.

Bridgeport hosts the Bridgeport-Endeavor Invitational at Endeavor Bridgeport Adventure Park on Wednesday. Paradise’s next race is the Boyd Invitational on Saturday, August 31.

Holt wins gold at the Cowtown Challenge

At the start of her junior season, Anna Holt of Boyd took her first win of the season last week.

Holt ran 13:04.93 to win the girls’ 2-mile race at the Cowtown Challenge held Aug. 17 at The Buff in Fort Worth. She beat Springtown’s Madelyn Walker (13:35.90) ​​by about 31 seconds. West’s Briley Brown took bronze in 13:40.68.

The Lady Jackets finished fourth in the team rankings (104) behind Springtown (54), West (75) and Slidell (87).

Boyd’s Laney McCarn contributed to Boyd’s team scores with a top-10 run, finishing tenth with a time of 14:06.06.

Cameron Brown was Slidell’s first runner to cross the finish line, finishing ninth with a time of 14:05.06. Allison Weathers (14:09.44) and Kearsie Kolar (14:13.27) finished in the top 15, finishing 12th and 13th, respectively.

Tianna Geiger of VCA proved to be dangerous on the course, finishing in seventh place with a time of 13:53.17. Her teammate Brooklyn Kennedy finished in 17th place with a time of 14:32.31.

In the boys’ 5K, Boyd finished fourth with 104, finishing behind Fort Worth High Point Academy (44), Birdville (50) and The Colony (100).

Ostan Hernandez took the individual bronze medal in 17:11.84, behind Isaiah Cox of Birdville (16:52.31) and Layton Ybarra (16:57.49) of High Point Academy.

In addition to Hernandez, his teammate Emanuel Rodriguez also made it into the top 10, finishing 10th (18:29.80). Boyd’s Treyton Owens finished 17th with a time of 19:04.44.

The Slidell Hounds finished eighth with 174 points. Carter Pierce led the team in his first high school race, finishing 25th with a time of 19:57.17.

VCA’s Jayden Donald achieved a top-25 time, finishing 24th with a time of 19:49.44.

Slidell will compete in the Bridgeport-Endeavor Invitational on Wednesday. VCA will compete in the Southwest Christian Invitational on Saturday, August 24, while Boyd will host the Boyd Invitational on August 31.

Lütkenhaus lands in the top 10

After a historic summer of racing, Northwest’s Cooper Lutkenhaus returned to the track last week and earned his first top-10 finish of the season.

Lutkenhaus finished ninth with a time of 9:56.99 in the Byron Nelson boys’ elite 2-mile race on August 17 at Pike Middle School in Justin.

The Texans finished seventh in the nine-team field with 174 points – behind Byron Nelson (23), Flower Mound (52), Denton Guyer (89), Eaton (100), Keller Central (139) and Keller Timber Creek (173).

Northwest will compete in the Kaufman Invitational at the Kaufman Sports Complex on Friday.
