A luxury residential complex planned for downtown St. Petersburg could become the tallest tower on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

The project is supported by local office developer Feldman Equities. and South Florida-based Property Markets Group as well as City Office REIT and Tower Realty Partners.

Plans submitted to the city call for a 49-story residential and office building at 150 Second Ave. S. The site is currently occupied by a six-story parking garage for the City Center office building.

If approved, the project will include 166 condominiums and over 73,000 square meters of office space.

The plan also includes over 10,000 square meters of ground floor retail space and 780 parking spaces.

The tower would be 543 feet tall. That’s nearly 30 feet taller than the Residences at 400 Central, the luxury condo currently under construction downtown that’s on track to become the tallest on the Gulf Coast.

While other news outlets reported that the condo would fall under the Waldorf Astoria brand, no one from the development team has confirmed this detail.

A five-star residence would be a first for St. Petersburg. But the concept has already caught on in Tampa: properties such as the Ritz-Carlton Residences, the Pendry and the Edition generate sales in the double-digit millions.

“We look forward to bringing a 5-star brand to St. Petersburg with this landmark luxury condominium project,” a spokesperson for the development team wrote in a statement. “This development will not only redefine the city’s skyline, but will also contribute significantly to its growing reputation as a world-class destination.”
