Trailer for “The Legend of Lara Croft”: Netflix dedicates itself to Tomb Raider

Since six years have passed since the last time, Grave robbers Film and three years after the expiration of the film rights that prevented Alicia Vikander from reprising the role of Lara Croft, Netflix is finally bringing Grave robbers back to the realm of animation. Although we will be tempted for the rest of our lives with another reboot of the film series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is coming to Netflix this October.

The voice is provided by Hayley Atwell, an actress who was set to play Croft in a live-action film. Croft returns for a direct sequel to the video game’s Survivor trilogy. Consisting of the 2013 Grave robbers and its sequels, 2015 Rise of the Tomb Raider and 2018 Shadow of the Tomb RaiderThe trio were part of a successful reboot of Croft. The games revamped Lara Croft’s design and reduced the triangular objectification that had plagued the character since 1996. After 20 years of making her loyal fans angry and horny, Lara finally ditched the buxom design models for something with significantly less back problems. Fans and critics rewarded the game with huge sales and great reviews, with Conan O’Brien giving the game a classic “Clueless Gamer.”

The Legend of Lara Croft handles the character differently. In the new teaser, we are treated to an anime-inspired Croft who looks and moves like a character from The Legend of KorraThe series is by Tasha Huo, who previously worked with Netflix on The Witcher: Blood Originand suddenly the animation makes perfect sense. Of course, since this is 2024 Grave robbersthe show will explore Lara Croft’s trauma, the only credible justification for tomb raiding.

It is interesting how Netflix has used some dormant properties for the animation wing, which they were supposed to protect with a password. Earlier this month they announced a new Terminator cartoon series, Terminator Zerowhich took a similar approach, putting a film series on hold after several studios failed to meet their contract terms. Hey, there’s always room for another animated series.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will stream on Netflix on October 10th.
