The official trailer for The substance is here.

The eagerly awaited movie stars Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley And Dennis Quaid in a story about a toxic beauty culture.

As previously reported, screenwriter and director Coralie FargeatIn the body horror film, Moore plays Elizabeth Sparkle, an ageing Hollywood superstar who is so desperate to regain her looks that she agrees to inject herself with a mysterious serum that bears the same name as the title.

“With just one injection, she is reborn – temporarily – as the gorgeous Sue in her twenties,” played by Qualley, according to the official synopsis.

However, of course, it turns out that it is too good to be true.

In the trailer, we see Elizabeth transforming into Sue. But things take a turn when Elizabeth is seen on the phone saying that “the substance was easily abused.”

“When we went into it, it was made clear to us how much vulnerability and openness was really needed to tell this story,” Moore said of the film in May. “It was a very vulnerable experience and just required sensitivity and a lot of conversations about what we wanted to achieve and how we were going to approach it.”

Moore also called Qualley a “great partner” when filming the film’s nude scenes.

“We were obviously close in certain moments – naked,” Moore said. “It also allowed us a lot of levity in those moments, thinking about how absurd those particular situations were… (b)ut ultimately it’s just about… really direct and clear communication and trusting each other.”

The film, which received a 13-minute standing ovation at its world premiere at the Cannes International Film Festival in June, opens in theaters on September 20.
