Anya’s opinion

The Hangar Pub is a cool new addition to the Box Elder community. The owner, Lisa, has big plans for the place, such as food service and a stage for entertainment. They also host cornhole and dart tournaments there. The bar is aviation-themed and many of the pictures Lisa herself took around Ellsworth Air Force Base are featured. They have a large selection of canned drinks and draft beer, as well as liquor. There are food trucks almost nightly. And don’t forget to visit Prim, their dog, while she’s there – she’s a friendly, furry addition to the pub.”

In Box Elder, The Hangar Pub is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of its owner, Lisa Willey. Lisa has a background in retail and decided to pivot her career to something more exciting and community-focused.

Inspired by her grandmother, who once owned a bar in California, Lisa set out to create a place where people could come together, enjoy good company and have fun.

A center for the military community

The Hangar Pub has become a popular meeting place for the local military community, providing a welcoming environment for the soldiers stationed nearby. Lisa affectionately refers to these young patrons as “kids” and appreciates their support and enthusiasm.

The pub caters to their needs by offering a variety of entertainment options including cornhole boards, fire pits, and dart boards. The pub even hosts a cornhole league and plans to start a darts league soon, which will add to the lively atmosphere even further.

Expand the experience

Lisa has ambitious plans for The Hangar Pub, with renovations and extensions ongoing. The pub currently offers a wide range of drinks, from spirits to an impressive selection of bottled drinks, and 14 beer taps, with plans to add ten more. As sole owner, Lisa has approached the pub’s development in phases, ensuring that every aspect is carefully crafted.

A stage and another bar are planned, which will feature live music, comedians, karaoke and darts tournaments. The pub also has a drive-in, converted from a previous shop on the property, allowing customers to conveniently purchase alcohol, especially during the colder months.

A meeting place for the community

The Hangar Pub has embraced its role as a community gathering place and plans to introduce simple bar food once the kitchen renovation is complete. Currently, a rotating selection of food trucks keeps patrons busy and expands the pub’s offerings.

Lisa’s commitment to creating a welcoming atmosphere extends to her furry companion Prim, the pub’s unofficial mascot. A loveable pup, Prim has become a favourite with regulars and adds a touch of warmth to the already welcoming atmosphere.
