Viewers of “Only Connect” shout at the TV because of a question

Viewers of “Only Connect” shout at the TV because of a question

Only Connect fans said they “shouted” the answer at the TV after quizzers stumbled upon a simple task.

The questions on the BBC show, hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell, are notoriously difficult and viewers at home love to compete with the contestants, with many sharing their results on X.

But when the latest episode aired, many fans apparently found it hard to believe that they had come up with such a thing, while the quizzers were left baffled.

The hopefuls of the show on Monday night (August 19) tried to decipher the connecting wall. However, they overlooked the fact that Tropicana, Sandwich, Class and Soda could be connected by the word “Club”.

They also didn’t figure out that Urban, Moon, Flint and Sweat were all “musical Keiths.” When the round ended, Mitchell told the contestants that viewers probably recognized the connections they missed.

“I want to thank you on behalf of the audience, who I’m sure have enjoyed it very much,” she told them. “Some people will be screaming at the screen with joy!”

Fans who watched the show admitted the TV star was absolutely right, with some saying they were “screaming at Keith and Club at the TV” as the quizzers considered various possibilities.

“I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one yelling ‘Clubs and Keiths’ at the TV tonight,” one person posted on X. “It’s a certain age of people who are currently yelling ‘Club’ at the TV,” said another.

“I can’t be friends with anyone who doesn’t automatically assume that Tropicana comes before Club,” joked one viewer, referring to the 1983 single by pop duo Wham!. Someone else wrote on the platform: “@VictoriaCoren yes you’re right, I screamed ‘CLUB! CLUB TRIPICANA FOR GOD’S SAKE’ and it was delicious.”

“Arrgghh, how could they not see Club Tropicana,” wondered another, and a third chimed in: “I can’t imagine never having heard of Club Tropicana.”

Mitchell ended the show with a joke, thanking fans for watching and adding, “I also want to thank all those who didn’t watch.”

“Without your dedicated commitment, we wouldn’t be a cult niche quiz, we’d have loads of viewers, we’d move to BBC One and I’d be replaced by Bradley Walsh.”
