2024 Wisconsin LCM 13 and older State Champion

Maggie Dickinson of the Schroeder YMCA was the highlight of the Wisconsin 13+ state meet in early August. Dickinson won two state titles and swam numerous personal bests.

Dickinson won the 50 freestyle in 26.88, just under her best of 26.63 from early May. She also won the 50 backstroke in 29.33. After swimming the 100 and 200 backstroke just a week earlier at the Summer Championships in Irvine, she opted not to compete individually in either event here and instead swam the 100 backstroke and led the 13-14 year olds’ 400 medley relay. Dickinson swam a 1:02.51 to lead the team to victory. That was just under her best of 1:02.10, which she swam in June, and she ranks 24th all-time in the 13-14 age group.

Dickinson also led the team to victory in the Girls 13-14 400 Freestyle Relay. She swam a heat of 57.50, also a personal best. That time earned her another cut at the US Open and places her just outside the top 100 all-time in the age group. The team took the win with a final time of 3:59.86, winning by over 8 seconds.

Alana Berlin, who chose Stanford, was also a highlight of the competition for the girls. She swam three victories in the 15+ age group. Berlin won the 50m backstroke in 28.91, the 200m breaststroke in 2:40.90 and the 50m butterfly in 27.19. She also swam a personal best of 26.41m freestyle during a relay for the Schroeder YMCA.

In the boys’ event, 14-year-old Max Garbacz of the Madison Aquatic Club was the star of the competition. Garbacz won the 100m backstroke with a time of 58.32, just under his personal best of 58.32 that he swam in July. He also swam the 100m freestyle in the heats, setting a personal best of 55.54.

Further highlights:

  • Livi Wanner, who chose Minnesota, swam a best of 25.50 in the 50-meter freestyle to win the 15-and-over age group. Wanner’s previous best was a time of 25.55 in May. She competed in the U.S. Olympic Qualifiers in June and swam a time of 25.83.
  • Grant Freeze swam the boys 13-14 400 freestyle in 4:06.23, a time that would have also won him the 15 and over age group. His best time was 4:06.13 in July.
