CNN moderator: Kamala Harris gets free rein in her bid for the White House

Vice President Kamala Harris has been “virtually invisible” in office and is enjoying “free rein” in her quest for the presidency.

This is the opinion of CNN anchor Michael Smerconish, a former Republican who voted for Barack Obama as president.

On his CNN weekend show, Smerconish said Harris is not “indestructible” and will ultimately be held accountable for her record and policy decisions, Mediaite reported.

He accused Harris of not giving a single media interview in the weeks since she became the Democratic presidential nominee following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.

“She has served as a low-profile, almost invisible vice president,” Smerconish said, adding: “She appears to have no track record of accomplishing her most important task, which is addressing the root causes of the border crisis.”

“So far, Harris is at large,” Smerconish said. “She has not given any interviews to the media or been asked to take any exit polls.”

Harris has announced that she will give an interview to the media by the end of the month.

Smerconish also attacked Harris for changing her position on several issues, including “health care, fracking, marijuana and the death penalty.”

He also said Harris must answer for her recent speech on economic policy, which he said has so far received “mixed reviews.”

“Sooner or later she will be held accountable and subjected to pressure that she has largely avoided so far,” Smerconish said.

Smerconish also called for closer scrutiny of Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who could potentially prove “just as weak” as Ohio Senator JD Vance, former Republican President Donald Trump’s running mate.
