CNN moderator Michael Smerconish criticizes “almost invisible” Kamala Harris

CNN host Michael Smerconish dampened Democrats’ enthusiasm for their “almost invisible” candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, warning that she is not “indestructible” and will ultimately be “held accountable” for her performance and policy positions.

Smerconish attacked Harris on Saturday for refusing to face reporters’ tough questions about what she would do as president since her nomination last month.

“Kamala Harris is not indestructible,” the former Republican and talk show host said Saturday on his weekend show on CNN, adding that the vice president would “ride around free.”

“She has served as a low-key, nearly invisible vice president.”

Smerconish noted: “It appears that it has not achieved any success in its most important task, namely combating the causes of the border crisis.”

His comments were reported by the news site Mediaite.

“So far, Harris is at large,” Smerconish said. “She has not given any interviews to the media or been asked to take any exit polls.”

The moderator noted that Harris had promised to give an interview to the press by the end of the month, adding: “She said that on August 8th!”

Smerconish accused Harris of changing her stance on several issues, including “health care, fracking, marijuana and the death penalty.”

He also said Harris would soon have to answer for an economic agenda that has so far received “mixed reviews.”

“Sooner or later she will be held accountable and subjected to pressure that she has largely avoided so far,” Smerconish said.

Smerconish also called for closer scrutiny of Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who could potentially prove to be “just as weak as (Ohio Senator) JD Vance.”

He cited a recent CNN report that said Walz made false statements about details of his 1995 arrest for drunkenness and reckless driving during his 2006 campaign for a seat in Congress.

The Post has asked the Harris-Walz campaign team for comment.
