Our Redeemer Lutheran School welcomes students with new principal and open day

NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska (KNOP) – Several students in North Platte have already returned to school, but one school will begin its first day on Wednesday, August 21.

On Sunday, Our Redeemer Lutheran School hosted an open house to welcome new and returning students. The event provided students with the opportunity to meet their teachers, tour their classrooms, and pick up their school supplies.

“I think they’re probably a little nervous about meeting the new principal, me, and being able to see their friends eases the nerves before the first day,” says Principal Mandee Mohr.

Mohr, who grew up in Maxwell and North Platte, taught in the public school system for 34 years before taking the position of principal at Our Redeemer Lutheran School. She said she felt the need for a change of scenery.

“So I just prayed that God would take me where I was supposed to land and here I am,” Mohr said.

Mohr has set clear goals for her students and emphasizes the importance of living a life pleasing to God.

“That will be the expectation: to treat each other with respect, kindness and honesty.”

Jayda Hartmann, a fourth-grader, shared her excitement about the upcoming school year.

“Having a new principal and being with my friends,” said Jayda Hartmann. “I love art, I always have. I think it’s pretty cool that you can express your feelings through drawing.”

The school year begins for students with a half day that starts at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 11:15 a.m.
