New York man charged with saliva attack during traffic stop in Ashley

ASHLEY – A New York man has been charged with aggravated assault after he impeded Ashley police during a traffic stop Friday night.

Jeury R. Gonzales-Brito, 21, of Tarrytown, exited a vehicle around 6:40 p.m. and approached Ashley officers who were involved in a traffic stop of another vehicle in the area of ​​South Main and Coalville streets, court records show.

According to court documents, Gonzales-Brito yelled profanities, got in the faces of police officers and a tow truck driver, and repeatedly refused to comply with orders to leave the area.

According to court documents, as Gonzalez-Brito stood near the police officers and tow truck driver, he screeched and sprayed saliva from his mouth into the faces of the police officers and tow truck driver.

Gonzalez-Brito was taken into custody when he refused to leave the area and ignored officers’ requests to stop yelling.

According to court documents, police stopped the first vehicle because of heavily tinted windows.

Gonzales-Brito was arraigned by District Judge Michael Dotzel of Wilkes-Barre Township on charges of aggravated assault, hindering prosecution and disorderly conduct. He was detained at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility because he was unable to post $25,000 bail.
