Rumor has it that Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan have ended their romance.
The two have been dating since December 2023, when they were spotted having dinner together in Los Angeles and fans thought they were the perfect couple. But now breakup rumors are circulating, and reports suggest that US singer Carpenter has called it quits with the Irish Saltburn actor.
Here’s everything we know so far about the former couple’s relationship, their alleged split, and their upcoming plans.
Who are Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan?
Carpenter is the latest star to follow Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande down the well-trodden path from children’s TV to the charts. The niece of actress Nancy Cartwright (who voices Bart Simpson on The Simpsons), Carpenter made her film debut at 12 in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and got her big break in 2014 when she was cast as Maya in the Disney series Girl Meets World.
At the same time, she continued to work on her music and released her debut album Eyes Wide Open in 2015. But it wasn’t until this year that she became a pop star with the mega hit Espresso. Just a few weeks later, Carpenter released Please Please Please, which topped the charts in both the US and the UK. The star also supported Taylor Swift on her big Eras tour.
Keoghan’s career began around the same time as Carpenter’s. The Irish actor broke out in 2011 when he auditioned for a role in the crime thriller “Between The Canals.” The role got him noticed, and Keoghan began to build his career with TV series such as “Love/Hate” and “Chernobyl,” as well as films such as “Eternals” and “The Batman.”
Critics acknowledged his impressive performance in 2022’s The Banshees of Inisherin, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination and a Bafta, but it was last year’s Saltburn – and THAT bathtub scene – that really put him on the map.
What is the net worth of Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan?
Between her acting, singing and other ventures such as a perfume line and modelling, Carpenter’s bank balance is said to be quite full, with recent estimates putting her net worth at around £9 million – not bad for someone who only recently turned 25.
Keoghan, 31, is also said to be making a fortune, with his net worth estimated at £2.5 million. The actor has certainly come a long way since his early days, when he earned £120 for his first film. He previously told Backstage that he got the job in Between The Canals after seeing an advert in a local shop window.
“It said ‘open audition,'” he said. “I remember writing down the number and not letting anyone come up to me because I was afraid I would stink. My friends might say, ‘Oh, you’re interested in acting?'” He got the role, explaining: “The film was shot on the same days as school, so I thought, ‘Oh well, I’ve got the day off from school.’ Then I got 120 euros. That’s 120 euros for turning up on a bike! I thought, ‘I’m in.'”
The relationship between Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan
Chance encounters and love stories
Carpenter and Keoghan – who has a young son from his previous relationship with dental assistant Alyson Kierans – are said to have met at Paris Fashion Week in 2023. It seems sparks flew, because a few weeks later they were spotted at what onlookers thought was a romantic dinner in California.
They remained tight-lipped about the budding relationship, with neither saying much about it as the rumor mill ran rampant. However, they did give little hints, like the odd Instagram comment and the time Keoghan was photographed wearing a bracelet that said “Sabrina.” On another occasion, Carpenter was asked on a podcast if she had seen Saltburn, and she coyly replied, “You know, I have.”
Backstage at the Eras tour
In February, they seemed ready to take a first step toward making things official when they attended an Oscar after-party together. The stars, both dressed in black, were separated on the red carpet but were photographed together inside.
Then in March, Keoghan was spotted in the crowd at one of Swift’s “Eras” concerts, where Carpenter was the opening act.
A TikTok taken by someone in the crowd seemed to confirm that the two were a couple, as it showed Carpenter running towards the actor backstage after their performance. He wrapped his arms around her before they walked off together, looking very much like a couple.
Not long after, Carpenter spoke to Cosmopolitan about relationships, though not specifically about Keoghan. “The relationships that I actually want to put my energy into have to be so interesting or invigorating because they take me away from the other things that I love,” she said. “So yeah, it’s fun and it’s messy. I think I’m still at the point where I really enjoy the newness of it all.”
Keoghan was also spotted at Coachella and was apparently there to support Carpenter.
MetGala
In May, they both attended the Met Gala, one of the biggest nights in the showbiz calendar. They walked the red carpet separately but were then photographed together on the Met’s famous steps, where Keoghan jokingly covered his face with his hat as they were photographed together.
Please, please, please
In June, Keoghan starred in the video for Carpenter’s most successful song to date – Please, Please, Please. In the steamy video, the singer played a woman in a relationship with a criminal played by the Saltburn star, and fans loved it.
Carpenter gave her fans a little insight into her feelings for the actor when she told Variety that her boyfriend “loved the song.” “He’s obsessed with the lyrics and I’m so grateful for that,” she said. “I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation.”
Divided rumors
In August, rumors began swirling that the couple had split. Although neither of them confirmed anything, it was reported that Carpenter had ended their relationship.
