Times have certainly changed…
I can’t remember anyone in the neighborhood ever giving me, my brothers, or any of my friends a hard time when I was a child for taking shortcuts through their yards.
But nowadays people can get upset about such things.
And this homeowner meant business.
Look at what happened!
“We live in the last house on our street, which has a slight curve.
For almost a year now, I’ve noticed the same teenager walking through our front yard twice a day (on the way to and from school).
Little idiot…
I asked him to stop ages ago, but he didn’t stop.
It gradually leaves a noticeable trail of thinned grass because too much has been walked on.
The kids went back to school yesterday after the summer holidays and I noticed him doing it again in the morning.
That’s when I decided that instead of confronting him, I would take revenge.
You see, the teenager in question is very fashion conscious, he ALWAYS wears really expensive clothes and, more importantly, sneakers.
We had planned to plant a flowerbed on a section of his chosen route. I decided: “Today is that day!”
I dug up the section and spread the new loose compost (including manure, of course) on top.
That would be good!
Then I ran my hose over the spot for a couple of hours to get the soil moist enough, and then I sprinkled grass clippings on top!
And indeed, the boy wants to cut a shortcut on our lawn and suddenly finds himself ankle-deep in wet mud and manure.
I was laughing so hard that I had to pull myself together before I went out and apologized to him profusely, while holding two plants that I wanted to plant in my new flower bed!”
