Sunday bike tour raises money for children with cancer

TWO HARBORS, Minn. (Northern News Now) – A bike ride Sunday on the North Shore will help raise money for children with cancer.

Participants in the Grit & Gratitude Ride set out early Sunday morning from SpokenGear bike shop in Two Harbors.

Cyclists could participate in two different rides, either 23 miles on paved roads or 50 miles on gravel roads.

The event is a fundraiser for organizations committed to the fight against childhood cancer.

“It’s incredible. It’s just incredible that so many people are willing to sacrifice their Sunday to participate. And we also have a silent auction that raises a lot of money. Even if people aren’t cyclists, they can participate in the silent auction and donate that way,” said Heather Lake, a volunteer with Grit & Gratitude.

The founder of the initiative was Heather Buchholz, whose daughter Lilly was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer at the age of just 15 months.

This year marks five years since Lilly has been in remission.

More than 100 riders took part on Sunday.
