During Sunday’s Indiana Fever game against the Seattle Storm, rookie phenom Caitlin Clark broke the WNBA rookie assist record in style.

This was her 225th assist of the season, breaking the previous record of 224 assists set by Ticha Penicheiro in 1998. Her record was achieved in a 30-game season, and Clark accomplished the feat in 28 games.

Records are meant to be broken…they show growth and development. I can’t think of a better player to break that!! Congratulations @CaitlinClark22 https://t.co/l99HRKJR7u

Clark was the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft and has lived up to expectations so far, averaging 17.6 points, 8.3 assists and 5.8 rebounds in 27 games for the Fever in 2024.

She has had a significant impact on Indiana this season. The Fever are currently 12-15 and 7th in the league, one win away from their 2023 win total and have already surpassed the win totals of the 2022, 2021 and 2020 seasons.

Indiana is seeking its first playoff appearance since 2016 and its first win since 2015. Clark’s contributions have certainly boosted the team’s chances of winning the title, and now she has 12 games left to set the bar incredibly high for the assist record.
