The Georgia Department of Transportation advises motorists of upcoming lane closures on Interstate 16 and surrounding areas as part of the 16@95 Improvement Project. Significant impacts are expected from August 19-26.

Notice regarding the closure of motorways for the 16@95 Improvement projects



WHAT: Weather permitting, Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) construction partners will close interstate lanes at the locations listed below for the 16@95 improvement projects, which will widen Interstate 16 (I-16) and rebuild the I-16/I-95 interchange. The lane closures are required for the I-16 widening and bridge work at the I-16/I-516 interchange.

Monday, August 19 to Saturday, August 24, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Temporary closure of the right and left lanes at the following locations

  • I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 interchange (MP 164) to the I-16/I-95 interchange (MP 157)


Monday, August 19 to Saturday, August 24, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Temporary closure of the right and left lanes at the following locations

  • I-16 eastbound from the I-16/I-95 interchange (MP 157) to the I-16/I-516 interchange (MP 164)


Monday, August 19 to Saturday, August 24, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Temporary closure of the right and left lanes at the following locations

  • I-516 westbound at the I-16 interchange from MP 5 to MP 6
  • I-516 eastbound at the I-16 interchange from MP 6 to MP 5


Night closures



Sunday, August 18 to Saturday, August 24, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The right or left lane is permanently closed at the following locations

  • I-16 eastbound at the I-16/I-95 interchange (MP 157)


Monday, August 19 to Saturday, August 24, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Temporary closure of the right and left lanes at the following locations

  • I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 interchange (MP 164) to the I-16/I-95 interchange (MP 157)
  • I-16 eastbound from the I-16/I-95 interchange (MP 157) to the I-16/I-516 interchange (MP 164)


Monday, August 19 to Saturday, August 24, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Double lane closures at the following locations

  • I-95 northbound @ I-16 overpass (MP 98 to MP 100)
  • I-95 southbound @ I-16 overpass (MP 101 to MP 98)


Continuous closures



Friday, August 23, 7 p.m. to Monday, August 26, 5 a.m.
Permanent closure of the left lane at the following location

  • I-16 westbound at Dean Forest Road (MP 160)


Advance notice & redirects



Note: The following detours will be scheduled to not overlap with each other. Closures and detours will be coordinated to ensure orderly traffic flow. No more than one ramp at the I-95/I-16 interchange or the I-16/I-516 interchange will be closed at a time.



Monday, August 19th to Saturday, August 24th, 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. (every night)

  • I-16 East to I-516 West exit (Exit 164B) (Map)

Motorists traveling east on I-16 should take the ramp to eastbound I-516 (Exit 164A), exit at the US 17/US 80/Ogeechee Road exit (Exit 3), turn left off the ramp, and then turn left to merge onto westbound I-516.



Monday, August 19th to Saturday, August 24th, 22:00 to 05:00 (every night)

  • I-95 north to I-16 eastbound (Exit 99A) (Map)

Motorists traveling north on I-95 should pass the I-16/I-95 interchange, exit at US Highway 80 (Exit 102), exit the ramp on the left, turn left to merge onto I-95 southbound, and then take the ramp to I-16 eastbound.



LONG-TERM CLOSURE



26 June 2022 to 31 May 2025

Tremont Road under I-16 (Map)

  • Motorists traveling on Tremont Road north of I-16 should take Telfair Road north, turn right onto West Gwinnett Street, turn right onto I-516 east, and then exit at Tremont Road (Exit 4).
  • Motorists traveling on Tremont Road south of I-16 should take I-516 west to West Gwinnett Street (Exit 6), turn left onto West Gwinnett Street, and then turn left onto Telfair Road to merge onto Tremont Road north of I-16.


Notice: Exact times are subject to change due to weather conditions. In addition to this announcement, temporary traffic delays and lane and ramp closures may occur in the work zone. Motorists are asked to expect delays, use caution, reduce their speed when traveling through work zones, remain alert and watch for workers.
