Pastor Shyngle and Stella Wigwe, parents of former Access Holdings Plc CEO Herbert Wigwe, have penned a heartfelt eulogy on the occasion of his first posthumous birthday.

Mr. Wigwe, his wife Chizoba and his first son Chizi died in a helicopter crash in Southern California, USA on February 9, 2024.

Former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo, and two crew members who were also on board the helicopter died.

Wigwe was born on August 15, 1966 in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Pastor Wigwe and his wife said in a statement that although they were heartbroken by the death of their son, they found comfort in God’s ability to heal them.

“Words cannot express how deep our love for you is and what a great emptiness your absence has left in our hearts. 58 years ago today, God blessed us with the precious gift of you, our beloved ‘Gege’.

“Although your departure was sudden and heartbreaking, we find comfort in knowing that only the Almighty can heal our broken hearts,” the statement said.

The deceased’s younger brother, Emeka, who cut short his trip to the United States to spend his birthday with his parents after his death, also shared his grief.

He wrote: “As I write these words on what would have been your 58th birthday, the weight of your absence weighs heavily on my heart. It feels like a piece of the world has been taken away with you, leaving a void that can never be filled.”
