The New York Times Connection Puzzle opens in the NYT Games app on iOS.
Sam Hill / Digital Trends

Connections is the New York Times’ newest puzzle game. The game challenges you to categorize a pool of 16 words into four (for now) secret groups by figuring out how the words relate to each other. The puzzle resets every night at midnight and each new puzzle has a different level of difficulty. Just like Wordleyou can track your winning streak and compare your results with those of friends.

Some days are harder than others. If you are having a little trouble getting through today’s Connections puzzle, then check out our tips and hints below. And if you still can’t solve it, we’ll tell you today’s answers right at the end.

How to play Connections

In Connectionsyou will be presented with a grid of 16 words. Your goal is to organize these words into four groups of four words each by identifying the connections between them. These groups can include concepts such as titles of video game franchises, sequels to book series, shades of red, names of restaurant chains, etc.

There are generally words that fit multiple topics, but there is only one 100% correct answer. You can shuffle and rearrange the word grid to better see the possible connections.

Each group is color-coded. The yellow group is the easiest to identify, followed by the green, blue and purple groups.

Select four words and press SubmitIf you guess correctly, the four words are removed from the grid and the theme connecting them is revealed. If you guess incorrectly, it is counted as a mistake. You are only allowed four mistakes until the end of the game.
