Live report: Amble creates an atmospheric folk atmosphere in the Electric Arena

With inviting ballads and palpable warmth, Amble attracted a sizable crowd, but never lost sight of his intimate artistry.

Folk singer Amble delivered a heartwarming set on Electric Picnic’s second largest stage – attracting an impressive crowd.

Frontman Robbie Cunningham was unable to play guitar due to a recent wrist injury, but he more than made up for it with outstanding vocal performances.

Cunningham reflected on how far the Midlands/West of Ireland trio have come since their formation, pointing out that until a few months ago, two band members worked full-time as teachers and one was employed at Pfizer.

When asked if he ever missed being a teacher, Cunningham replied, “Absolutely not.”

At the beginning of Amble’s set, a selected cover of “Jersey Giants” was played, which was received with great enthusiasm.

The huge audience at the Electric Arena was given an exclusive taste of a new song in the form of “Little White Chapel,” which is scheduled for release in three weeks.

The emotional highlights of the set were the performances of the group’s biggest hits “Mary’s Pub” and “Land and Sea”.

Both tracks proved to be intimate yet universal and evoked emotional resonance.

“Mariner Boy” was met with similarly enthusiastic cries and proved to be the biggest hit of the night, at which point Cunningham said, “You guys are a bloody great crowd, I must say.”

The frontman described the crowd of enthusiastic fans as a “pinch-me moment”.

Although there is no justice in who gets recognition as a musician, when looking at the radiant acoustic trio one cannot help but believe that we made the right decision and chose something good this time.
