Elton Brand, a Duke University basketball star from the late 1990s and two-time NBA All-Star forward, has been the franchise’s general manager since 2018 and played a role in Philadelphia selecting the accurate McCain as the No. 16 overall pick in the draft in late June.

And then there’s Alaa Abdelnaby, a longtime NBC Sports analyst for the Philadelphia 76ers, a Duke University basketball star from 1986 to 1990 who played 134 games as a Blue Devil and reached three straight Final Fours before embarking on a five-year NBA career that included his final stint with the Sixers.

On Sunday morning, 56-year-old Egyptian native Alaa Abdelnaby posted a picture of his recent chat with Philadelphia’s new 20-year-old Blue Devil and TikTok sensation from California, Jared McCain:

Abdelnaby and McCain were in Carroll, Iowa, to support 76ers head coach Nick Nurse, an Iowa native, at his golf and music event, which included Friday’s Nick Nurse Charity Invitational, celebrating the grand reopening of the course he recently purchased to save: Carroll National Golf Club.

McCain and the Sixers open their 2024–25 regular season at home against the Milwaukee Bucks on October 23.
