Have you ever walked through the Magic Kingdom and been startled by a LOUD whistle? Have you ever walked past Liberty Square and heard the passengers on the Riverboat to Liberty Square? This Magic Kingdom attraction is a CLASSIC and will be closing soon. Now is the time to take the last rides along the rivers of America, folks.
We recently learned that there will be a brand new Cars Land in the Magic Kingdom. This area will take the place of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America, the current location of the Liberty Square Riverboat. We know that work on this new area in Frontierland will begin in early 2025, but it looks like the Liberty Square Riverboat will be closing much sooner.
According to the Disney World website, the Liberty Square Riverboat will be temporarily closed from August 20-22. According to the Disney World calendar, the attraction will reopen on August 23.
Disney hasn’t given a reason for the temporary closure, but it’s likely just routine maintenance. We’ve seen this attraction close for renovations several times before, and it looks like this renovation should be completed quickly.
If you’ve never ridden this classic Magic Kingdom attraction, you should definitely check it out before it’s over! The boat ride lasts about 17 minutes and offers you a rare glimpse into some secret parts of the Magic Kingdom. And in true Disney fashion, there are plenty of fun details to discover as you cruise through the Rivers of America.
But Disney keeps going, and that means change is on the horizon! Here’s a look at the concept art for the NEW Cars Land coming to Frontierland.
This area will feature two new attractions, one of which is described as a “thrilling rally race through the mountains. Tackle wild terrain as you race through the countryside, climb mountain trails, dodge geysers and – Mater’s favorite attraction – wade through mud holes.”

As I said, this closure probably has nothing to do with the Addition of the new Cars area, but it is interesting to see how this part of the park is being completely redesigned!
