1 dead after police heard gunshots and open fire in Pilsen: CPD

According to Chicago police, officers shot and killed a man they said was armed in Pilsen early Sunday after hearing gunshots in the area.

At around 1:15 a.m., Robbery Task Force officers heard several gunshots near the 1800 block of South Blue Island Avenue and found “armed perpetrators,” according to police.

The officers then opened fire and hit a man, police said.

The man, whose age is unknown, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A firearm was seized at the crime scene.

A man and a woman were found in a vehicle with numerous gunshot wounds near where officers heard the shots, police said.

Both were taken to nearby hospitals in critical condition, police said.

According to police, officers determined that the man who was shot was one of the shooters who opened fire on the vehicle.

One officer suffered “minor injuries,” police said. Two officers were taken to a nearby hospital for observation.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for at least 30 days.

This is the second shooting reported over the weekend involving a Chicago police officer.

On Friday night, a Chicago police officer opened fire on a car wanted in connection with a murder in New City. No injuries were reported and one person was taken into custody.
