ICC announces schedule for 2025 Women’s U19 T20 World Cup, India seeded in Group A

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Sunday, August 18, announced the schedule for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, to be played in Malaysia. The tournament will begin on January 18, with the final scheduled for February 2.

A total of 16 teams will take part in the event, divided into four groups of four teams each. Fans can watch 41 exciting matches over 16 days at four venues, providing an action-packed cricket calendar.

Ahead of the competition, 16 warm-up matches will also be played from January 13 to 16 to prepare the teams for the main event. Hosts Malaysia will be taking part in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time, while Samoa will be making its debut at an ICC World Cup event. Defending champions India have been seeded in Group A alongside West Indies, Sri Lanka and Malaysia and will begin their campaign against West Indies on January 19.

The opening day of the tournament, January 18, will feature six matches: Australia vs. England, England vs. Ireland and Samoa vs. Africa. The tournament will open simultaneously with the qualifying matches Australia vs. England, England vs. Ireland and Samoa vs. Africa.

India will play in the second semi-final if they qualify

The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six stage, where they will be divided into two groups of six teams each. The top three teams from Groups A and D will form one Super Six group, and the top three teams from Groups B and C will form the other group. The teams will also carry their points and net run rates from the group stage into the Super Six stage. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

If India qualifies for the semifinals, they will play Semifinal 2. The women in blue will be keen to defend their title after the tThey won the first edition of the tournament, which will take place in South Africa in 2023. with a victory over England in the final by seven wickets.

A reserve day was scheduled for all knockout matches, with February 1 serving as the reserve day for the two semi-finals and the final on February 3. Thailand was originally scheduled to co-host the event alongside Malaysia, but the withdrawal made Malaysia the sole host of the event.

ICC U19 Women’s World Cup 2025 – Groups

Group A – India (A1), West Indies (A2), Sri Lanka (A3) and Malaysia (A4), play at the Bayuemas Oval in Selangor.

Group B – England (B1), Pakistan (B2), Ireland (B3) and USA (B4) will play at the Dato’ Dr. Harjit Singh Johor Cricket Academy (JCA Oval), Johor.

Group C – New Zealand (C1), South Africa (C2), Africa Qualifiers (C3) and Samoa (C4) and matches at Borneo Cricket Ground, Sarawak.

Group D – Australia (D1), Bangladesh (D2), Asian Qualifiers (D3) and Scotland (D4) and matches at the UKM YSD Oval in Selangor.
